TWL has a long standing history and expertise in growing and developing such traffic flows through its own port at Mistley in Essex ( part of the Haven group of ports) and also through associated facilities on the River Trent (Lincolnshire / Humber).
Currently, over 500 million tonnes of freight p.a. moves by water in the UK, more than any other mode of transport. Whilst the majority of this moves through the main UK deep sea ports, a growing number of shippers recognise the significant benefits of moving traffic using short sea or domestic coastal routes.
Recently there's been a revival of shipping cargo around the UK, which prove to be sustainable, viable, green & cost effective solutions, particularly for bulk products. This is particularly suited for longer distance movements where users or producers have easy access to coastal ports or inland wharves.
Short sea shipping is the movement of cargo by sea between European ports; Due to the strategic East coast locations, the port of Mistley is particularly suited for traffic from Northern Europe, with rapid seafreight times from port to port.
